Trotec Speedy 400

Laser cutting was used for:

  • 80 sections of 1" insulation foam cut to three different airfoil layouts

  • 16 1/4" plywood sections cut for mounting

The 80 sections of foam and 16 sections of plywood were slid onto 3/4" round steel pipes which acted as our spars.

Instrumentation

12 brushless DC motors which were powered by 4 10,000mAh lithium ion batteries were added and controlled by 3 ECS's and Arduino PWM signals. The full instrumentation bill of materials and electrical schematic can be seen through the links below. The specifications of of each component is outlined in the final report.

Wing Layup

To improve the surface finish and rigidity of the wing after the foam sections were set into place with an adhesive, a fiberglass hand layup was applied. Two sheets of 5.5oz fiberglass cloth were applied with an Epoxy Resin and a hardener. The final surface was finished with a vinyl wrap to smooth out any deficiencies.
